Who We Are Why We Exist
The Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals (NLCHP) an independent body established by legislation under the Health Professions Act (2010)  is responsible for governing the regulation of seven health groups designated under the Act .These professions include:
  • Acupuncturists
  • Audiologists
  • Speech Language Pathologist
  • Dental Hygienists
  • Medical Laboratory Technologists
  • Midwives, and
  • Respiratory Therapists
Three of the health professions - Acupuncturists, Medical Laboratory Technologists and Respiratory Therapists- saw their regulations proclaimed or "come into force"  as of September 30,2012 and each will be designated as a professional College.  Each College has responsibilities with regards to entry-to-practice requirements as well as scopes and standards of practice. 
 
The NLCHP, in consultation with the Colleges, is responsible for regulating all groups in the areas of registration, professional standards, quality assurance, and discipline. The NLCHP, with two members from each of the professional groups and six public representatives shall act to:
  • support the quality and safety of health services;
  • enhance public protection;
  • improve patient safety and strengthen the regulatory system, and
  •  facilitate patient-centered interprofessional collaboration and care.

How to File a Complaint

Lodging an Allegation(Complaint) with the NLCHP

As the regulatory body for registered acupuncturists(TCM), medical laboratory technologists and respiratory therapists the NLCHP, is responsible , under the Health Professions Act (2010), for serving and protecting the public. The Council does this by ensuring that registrants meet the requirements for registration and uphold the standards of practice and code of ethics for their discipline.

Regulations for Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists

The new regulations for Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists in Newfoundland and Labrador are now in force as published in the Extraordinary issue of the Gazette, April 30, 2013. The names of those registered to practice under these regulations are listed under the "members" section of the NLCHP website.

Dental Hygienist Registration

Registration packages for Dental Hygienists are now available from the NLCHP website. Initial registration forms and a How to Complete Guide can be accessed by the Registration/Regulation section of the NLCHP home page.

Please note the deadline for inital registration is May 15, 2013.
